Prepare the Chicken
– Clean: Rinse the chicken under cold water and pat it dry with paper towels.
Season the Chicken
– Marinate or Rub: Apply your favorite marinade or dry rub. Common ingredients include olive oil, garlic, paprika, salt, pepper, and herbs.
Preheat the Grill
– Set Up: Preheat your grill to medium heat (about 350°F to 375°F).
Prepare the Chicken for Grilling
– Spatchcocking: For even cooking, you can spatchcock (remove the backbone) the chicken.
Place the Chicken on the Grill
– Indirect Heat: Position the chicken breast-side up on the cooler side of the grill (indirect heat).
Cook the Chicken
– Cover and Grill: Close the lid and cook for about 1.5 to 2 hours. Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness;
Baste–Add Flavor: If desired, baste the chicken with additional marinade or sauce every 30 minutes for extra flavor.
Rest and Serve
–Let It Rest: Once done, remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before carving.
